Essay topics:

You are experiencing financial problems and want to ask your landlord if you can pay your rent late. Write a letter to your landlord.

In your letter explain:

Why you are writing to him
Why you cannot pay the rent
When you will pay the rent.

Dear Mr. Jones,

I am writing to you with a request to allow me to pay my rent a few days late this month. I know this is a short notice but the reason for this delay is that my current company has decided to cut-back on its employees and since I was their newest, they decided that it’d be better for me to quit rather than laying-off one of their seasoned employee.

Fortunately I have managed to find another job which I will be starting next week. The HR team at my new office is very cooperative as they have agreed to loan me my salary in advance. I would therefore be able to pay you the rent by 25th of this month instead of the 5th, as is usually the practice.

I hope you would consider my situation and accept my request. I am also ready to pay you late fees for the extension, if required.

Looking forward to your response.

Yours Faithfully,

Aparna Rachapudi
