You live in a room in college which you share with another student.
However, there are many problems with this arrangement and you find it
very difficult to work.
Write a letter to the accommodation officer at the college. In your letter
describe the situation
explain your problems and why it is difficult to work
say what kind of accommodation you would prefer
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to address an accommodation problem I have been facing lately and would very much like to bring it to your kind attention.
For the last two months, I have been co-habiting with a new sophomore student. Ever since his arrival, it appears to me that I have grappled with maintaining my academic performance in his presence. In fact, the results of my weekly quizzes suggest an actual decline in my scores. This, however, did not come to me as a surprise, since an underlying sleep-deprivation problem throughout this period had me seeing it coming.
As nice as the new roommate is, his routine and a number of his habits are in stark conflict with mine. For one thing, having a different schedule means that sometimes our sleep times do not overlap, forcing both of us to sleep with the lights on, which I have always found particularly difficult. Furthermore, he seems to adopt lower standards of hygiene. This puts on me the burden of cleaning up some mutual areas, like the studying desk.
Being our appointed accommodation officer, I would kindly ask you to consider some changes. I would be totally open for sharing the same room with another junior student, more so if we can arrange a way to make sure we would be a good fit. In addition, I can also manage to move to a smaller individual room if need be.
Looking forward to your generous response.
Yours sincerely,
Assem Ashraf
