learning foreign language with comparision to native one is pretty difficult. it is said that children are like a mud in a potter's wheel. we can mould and shape them in the shape we desire.teaching foreign language in the primary level education might be a better option as children are faster learner with comparision to the adolescents and adults. similarly it aso might help them to be used to with it ,thus contributing them to gain mastery in it as well.
researches have shown that childrens' brain is very active and can memorise things very fast.similarly they are also very curious and eager to learn new things than adolescents who are guided by their self consciousness. if they are taught foreign languages in their early primary level, they can learn faster than compared to adolescents.
to learn something and gain mastery in it requires a lot of repetitions and practice.the same thing is applicable in learning foreign languages too. one has to practice a lot and requires a bound time period as well. teaching foreign language in primary level provides the advantage of getting introduced to the forign language at the very early stage so one can learn it in early phase ,get used to with it an as well as gain the time to gain fluency in it as well.
teaching foreign language at the secondary level might not be a perfect educational model because with increasing age various factors may hinder the learning process and outcomes.for example in our country Nepal, english is considered as one of the foreign language. traditionally it was used to be taught at the lower secondary level. the outcome was that the learners ere not able to learn it easily and passed with poor grades. learners are already used to with their mother tongue that it might be hard to learn foreign language and they might give up with disappointment.
But to teach foreign language at the primary level is itself not an easy task. competent teachers may not be always available in the primary level to teach children foreign languages. however in this scenario there are more benefits than compared to limitations.
