The bar chart illustrates how agriculture, manufacturing, and business and financial services contributed to the UK economy in the twentieth century. For ten years, the UK economy had many changes in the contribution of selected sectors.
In general, the contribution of agriculture and manufacturing to the UK economy decreased, however, business and financial services increased over the period given.
Obviously, from 1990 to 1950, agriculture played a main role in the UK economy, accounted for almost half of the total economy (49%). There was a steady rise from 49% to around 52% of the contribution of agriculture. However, in 1975, it fell to around 10% and ended up in the lowest contributor (2%) to the economy in 2000.
Likewise, the manufacturing sector also showed a similar pattern. In 1900, the contribution of manufacturing stood the second place in UK economy with 45%; nevertheless, it dropped suddenly to 15% in 2000. In 1975, it surpassed the others, coming to the main sector in the contribution (33%)
On the contrary, the business and financial sector showed a completely different trend. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Business and Financial sector rose significantly from 3% to around 35% in 1990 and 2000 respectively. Over 25 years of time, it became the top of the three sectors that accounted for one-third of the total economy.
In conclusion, at the start of the twentieth century, agriculture and manufacturing sectors contributed mostly in the UK economy. While the business and financial sector led up when the economy changed to the advanced era.
