Assessing educational achievement through formal “pen and paper” examinations is not considered a best option by many people. In my opinion, written exams are a way of judging only writing skills of the students. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss why ‘pen and paper’ examinations are not considered best option along with my explanation.

Firstly, written exams can judge theoretical knowledge of the students whereas these cannot assess practical knowledge of the students. Moreover, papers are made of wood and therefore, cutting of trees is required to meet the amount of papers needed. To add more, many intelligent students have poor hand-writing and therefore, it would be hard to read by the examiner. Hence, they get poor scores and which is not considered good as deserving students get less marks.

Secondly, after writing a long exam, students feel exhausted and it would be hard for them to prepare for the next exam. Although, it is considered a best option by some students but many students feel it is an inefficient way to assess student’s ability because many students feel comfortable in giving exam orally or online and it even helps in building student’s confidence and therefore help in cracking interviews. Some pupils feel very nervous while giving paper exams and thus, in result, they score very less.

In conclusion, I think that written exams are not the best way and I believe that different ways of exams should be added for future.
