Should teenagers do part-time work? While some nations allow their teens to have a part-time job as their transition from being a youngster to an adult, others have found significant negative consequences in that approach. This essay will take a close look at both views before demonstrating that part-time jobs seem to have more advantages than disadvantages.
Firstly, older teenagers are in a stage where they are reaching the age of responsibility and financial independence, and there are various reasons that teens want to work. Most of their motivation for work stems from desire to have enough money to buy things. Typically, they tend to spend their money on clothing college or helping their families with the living expenses. For this reason, adolescents who get part-time jobs benefit from the valuable work experiences, which are excellent for their resumes, helping them to land a well-paid job. Beside that, by getting a job early on in life, young people can improve their self-confidence, enhance their communication skills, and learn how to handle people. They can, thus, mature into responsible adults and become independent early on in life.
On the other hand, some studies suggest there are also downsides to get a part-time job at an early age. Focusing too much on work may discourage teens from going to school, and that can lead to poor academic performance and low grades. Moreover, balancing work and school could be hard for students, and the pressure and stress that leads them form negative views of work.
In summary, encouraging teenagers to do part-time work has its pros and cons. However, I believe that teenagers should be encouraged to have a part-time job if that does not impact their studies negatively.
