Essay topics:

In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard enough.
What advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?

The existing idea in some cultures oftentimes dictates that teaching children determination and persistence will bring about their success no matter the challenge. This will essay will look at the benefits and drawbacks of this teaching to the young.

Given the influence of parents on children, telling them to be tenacious could help them to sustain a strong mind and high level of determination. Indeed, many parents usually tell their offsprings about successful figures’ stories to showcase that they could achieve their goals in life if they never keep pushing boundaries. Another advantage of this teaching is that it injects the brain with positivity which is necessary for any predicaments. Learning values of persistence and determination, children are more likely to overcome failures and stand up to pursue their course to success.

On the other hand, constantly being fed with the idea that only by making concerted efforts could they succeed, children might seem not to distinguish between realistic goals and illusions. In some cases, the inability to comprehend the fact that some people do not possess the talents and skills necessary for a job, singing, for example, some end up trying to do what they are not capable of, but to no avail. Moreover, the tendency of parents imposing certain expectations on their children could inadvertently result in stresses among the young such as study pressure or occupational discontentment. Without taking into consideration other characteristics of a child, setting him to success is very unlikely.

In conclusion, even though I concede that success oftentimes comes by virtue of tenacity, I still maintain that leaving it to this practice could potentially impose some negative effects on children’s development. Deciding what is best for a child lies in the hand of his parents, however, it should be taken into account his interests and personality as well.
