Essay topics:

Some people think that everyone has the right to have access to university education and that the government should make it free for all students no matter what financial background they have.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion.

It is believed that the government should waive college tuition fees, regardless of students’ economic background. I somewhat agree with this opinion because it is challenging for numerous people to afford higher education. However, I hold a strong belief that the government’s fully paying for tuition would have an adverse bearing on both students and society.
On the one hand, allowing students to pursue higher education for free is a promising method to solve several social issues. As education bridges the gap between the rich and the poor, making university free for everyone can reduce the social disparity. By receiving scholarships to study at colleges and getting qualifications, people, especially the underprivileged will stand better chances to land reasonably paid jobs instead of getting involved in manual labor after high school. Consequently, the well-being of the population can be improved.
On the other hand, the provision of free tertiary education can affect both students and society negatively. As the job market is increasingly competitive, it would no longer be feasible for job seekers to be employed if most candidates are bachelor’s degree holders. Therefore, several issues such as bribery and corruption not only continue to happen but also get worse. Moreover, the enormous amount of money it takes to cover higher education tuition will become a great financial burden for developing countries such as Vietnam. Once a free-college policy is applied, other taxes will be hiked when budgets for social welfare and insurance may be minimized.
In conclusion, I concede that waiving university tuition seems like a good idea due to the aforementioned benefits related to society. However, I also believe that the government should not make college free for everyone.
