This phenomenon sparks an extensive debate on whether it has positive or negative effects on children. This essay will examine both sides and shed light on some justifications for my advocating this trend.
On the negative side, the predilection for playing games instead of participating in sports poses several significant threats to youngsters. One prominent justification lies in the sedentary lifestyle that accompanies prolonged gaming seasons. Long periods of screen time can confine physical exercise to contemporary children, which increases the risk of obesity and several other problems pertinent to health. For instance, Neil, a professional player of Arena of Valor, spent 22 hours playing games in order to practice for his tournament. This prolonged gaming period had occasioned a condition known as Nintendo thumb, which ultimately forced him to retire due to its adverse effects.
Aside from the aforementioned consequence, a preference for playing games over enrolling in sports also brings many benefits for young people. Modern computer games offer a plethora of creative activities. This approach would enhance creativity and imagination among children by allowing them to freely design their own virtual world and act as a cornerstone for further development developments. To elucidate, some fashion-design games demand their players to design by their imagination, such as the game Fashion Fantasy, which fosters children's fundamental affinity with interesting stories and creative clothes.
In conclusion, the trend of children opting to play games over the predilection of engaging in sports sparks an intensive debate due to the potential threats it yields. However, I firmly assert that the benefits it brings, which act as a prerequisite for children's development, such as creativity and imagination, overpower the aforementioned drawback.
