Some students prefer classes with frequent discussions between the professor and the students with almost no lectures. Other students prefer classes with many lectures and almost no discussions. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
It is very important for a student to find his class interesting to develop his interest for the subject. In my opinion, an interactive class with almost no lectures is more preferable. I feel this way for
two reasons which I will explore in the following essay.
To begin with, a class with more interactions with the professors gives us more opportunities to clear our doubts. The discussions with professors can be very fruitful as it can help a student to open up to the professor about the problems and doubts he faces in a subject. Also, the student can ask more questions about the approach of a topic or how to prepare for a topic to the professor which would not have been possible in a class with almost no discussions. My personal example is a compelling example of this. I had been doing graduation in education, when a professor started taking our classes with more interactions and almost no lectures in the new semester. This class was about psychology of a child and different approaches to understand this psychology. The interactions with professor was enlightening as the subject became more clearer with relevant examples being discussed in the class regarding the approaches to psychology.
Accordingly, I became more confident in the subject which was known to be one of the harder subjects of the course. Hence, an interactive class gives us the time discuss our misgivings of a topic with our professors.
Secondly, an interactive class also allows the student to come across different opinions on the same topic. A class with more discussion allows all the students to put forward his idea and opinion about a topic. Thus, the class becomes
a melting point of different notions held forward by students coming from various backgrounds. Thus, interactions with the professor becomes more engaging as opinions and ideas are shared among a group of students in the class. For instance, the class on methods of teaching was one that was most awaited by the students during the graduate course on bachelor of education. As the student came up with different methods of teaching and how it can be improved, the class became more engaging and fruitful. Therefore, the class with more discussions gave the students an ample opportunity to hear views about methods of teaching and hence, implement these views later during the practice of teaching
In conclusion, classes with more discussions than lectures is more preferable. This is because these classes give opportunity to the students for doubt clearing and also hearing different views on a particular subject.
