4 working days in US
The author of the reading and the lecturer both are about the four working days in the United States.
The reading passage states that there will be numbers of advantages from cutting off 5 working days to 4 working days whereas the lecturer argues with the points and casts doubt on the main ideas of the reading passage.
The lecturer provides cogent reasons for challenging the points mentioned in the passage.
First of all, the author of the passage claims that decreasing from 5 working days to four will benefit the company and help to make more profit. However, the lecturer disputes this point by stating that the expenses of the company will be increased. He adds, it will force company to provide more training to the new employees. Likewise, different facilities like medical services, more resources, more spaces has to be managed which in turn results in company lose.
Second, according to the reading passage the 4 days working plan will decrease the unemployment rate. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this by stating that having more number of worker will be costly as mentioned earlier. In addition, the workers will have to work for over time so as to accomplish the particular task in time. Thus, rather providing the employment service it will add loads to the employees themselves.
Finally, the author believes that the plan will be better for the individual as well. On other hand, the lecturer argues that the individual will be at risk of loosing his/her job since he/she will decrease the quality of their performance. Thus, the plan has disadvantage to an individual as well. In addition, the lecturer thinks losing job will result in decrease in quality of life.
In conclusion, although the reading passage and the lecturer both are about the 4 working days, the lecturer has effectively challenged the main point mentioned in the reading passage by providing logically convincing reasons.
