The reading states that R. Robustus was not an active hunter, instead these species were only a scavenger and fed by dinosaur eggs time to time. However, the professor opposes this arguement and refutes each of the three points made in the reading.
First, the reading claims that the R. Robustus were much smaller sized mammals than psittacosaurs and because of this size difference it is impossible for R. Robustus to hunt psittacosaurs. The professor disagrees with this argument by explaining that R. Robustus mammals may have hunted baby psittacosaurs or other small similarly sized dinosaurs.
Second, the reading argues that the R. Robustus were suitable for scavenging because of its short legs and psittacosaurs cannot be caught with these short legs. The professor opposes this idea. She believes that R. Robustus can be fast enough to catch psittacosaurs by giving the example of modern era Tazmania Devil which has short legs, too. Tazmania Devil is also an active hunter which can run fifteen kilometers per hour.
Third, the reading states that the dinosaur bones inside the R. Robustus stomach were not carry any teeth mark and that is why there is no evidence for active hunting. These bones were related to the leftover from another active hunter. On the contrary, the professor refutes this idea by explaining that the R. Robustus have a powerful jaw so this mammal may have swollen the psittacosaurs whole or in big pieces.
As a conclusion the reading describes that why the R. Robustus were scavengers. The Professor disagrees these arguments and explains the reasons of their possibility of being hunters.
