The reading passages has listed some reasons why sending people to asteroid is the best choice for us, whereas the professor provides a few counterpoints , claiming that this option is unpractical and has downsides as follows.
First of all, the professor opposes to the statement that lower gravity of asteroids is an advantage for traveling.The lower gravity can make it easier for crafts to land and take off but it can also lead to some severe risks for the astronauts.For example, the muscles and bone density of the astronauts will be badly affected under a low-gravity environment, which can cause some health problems.
Moreover, the professor also indicates that an asteroid colony will not be so profitable as what the reading passage says.On the one side, the cost of the support and the transportation of the minerals will be considerably high even though they are precious.On the other side, when these minerals are sent back to Earth they will not be rare because of their abundance and therefor the price of them will decrease greatly.
Finally, while the reading passage implies that asteroids are easy to reach, the professor says it will be difficult for the craft to return.The orbits of asteroids are quite unusual so sometimes asteroids will move away from Earth.And when the asteroids are far away from Earth it will be difficult to return.
