Blood rain
The article and the lecture focus on the blood rain phenomenon. The author of the article presents three theories explaining the color of these rains. The lecturer disputes the claims made in the article. His position is that there is no sufficient evidence that supports those explanations.
In the reading, the author begins by stating that the ash from volcano eruption could result in blood rains. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that in this case there should be acid rain detected, but it does not.
Secondly, the author suggests that the meteor explosion could be the reason for the blood rains. In the article, it is said that citizens of Kerala, where the last blood rain was registered, saw a bright light, and heard thunder before the rain came. And the light and thunder could be considered as evidence of such an explosion. The lecturer, however, asserts that if meteor explosion was the reason for the blood rain, the area, covered by the rain, would be much bigger and yet it does not.
Finally, another reason why the blood rains appear is the release of the lichen spores. The professor is doubtful that this is an accurate conclusion. He suggests that these spores are located near the ground, and there is no evidence that they can be gathered in the atmosphere and made the rain red.
