Did bees (a type of insect) exist on Earth as early as 200 million years ago? Such a theory is supported by the discovery of very old fossil structures that resemble bee nests. The structures have been found inside 200- million-year-old fossilized trees i

The reading states that the fossil structures that is resembled to bee nests and they are discovered in Arizona are not made by bees 200 million years ago. However, the professor says that it is possible that the fossilized structures can be made by bees, and she argues that all the passage reasons are not convincing.
First of all, the reading claims that no fossils of actual bees have been found at the date of 200 million years ago. The professor contradicts this point by saying that It is actually there were no fossil remains of bees 200 million years ago, but that does not mean that the bees are not presented at that time. The explanation is the bees fossils are preserved by specific kind of resin. And these type of trees that produce resins did not exist 200 million years ago. That's why; the trees that produce resin have become common later so the bees fossils could not be preserved 200 million years ago.

Secondly, the reading argues that bees are relying on flowering plants, and there was an absence of flowering plants 200 million years ago. Nevertheless, the professor says that it is quite possible that bees were feeding on non-flowering plants at that time and then after evolving of non-flowering plants to flowering plants, the bees have evolved this relation with flowering plants. Thus, the biological relationship of bees with non-flowering plants to flowering plants is stable.
Thirdly, the reading posits that the structures that return 200 million years ago are lacked finer details of bees' nest. Like, modern bees' nest are closed by caps. The professor refutes this point by saying that even though there are no caps in structures' fossils, there is evidence of the presence of chemical substances the same as existed in modern bees nests. For instance, modern bees produce waterproofing substance, and researchers found the same chemical composition in the fossilized nests.
