Dinosaurs, as described in the article, were not strong enough to defy extinction. Some theories have been suggested to show this. Of them, three are most common. As plausible as these theories seem, they are not as convincing as they seem, due to some natural occurrences which were not put into consideration. First, the asteroid theory assumes that the element called Iridium was scattered when a giant asteroid hit the earth during the time Dinosaurs lived. However, modern research shows that Iridium is found in the earth core, and could, consequently, have leaked out through volcanic eruption. Therefore, it is wrong to conclude that the fall of a giant asteroid on the earth's surface caused the extintion of Dinosaurs, since there was probably no giant asteroid fall to start with. This information disproves the plausibility asteroid theory. Hence, there is a need for it to be looked into if it is to be accepted.
Second, the ice age theory, which infers that dinosaurs became extint due to the harsh wheather was put forth. One of the eidences provided was the coming of the glacial period to the earth every 20,000 to 40,000 years. This seemed plausible at a time. However, the professor mentions that the environment was humid during the time of existence of the Dinosaurs. Besides, there is no eveidence of glacials during that period. In fact, there are evidences of the existence of subtantial amountg of tropical species, and the amount of cabon dioxide in the atmosphere at that time is similar to what we have today. Consequently, there was probably no ice age, as the poles never melted. This disproves the Ice age theory.
Last, the bird evolution theory is also questionable, as modern birds could have survived the period of existense of Dinosaurs instead of being the products of the evolution of Dinosaurs. One of the reason for this is that, though birds have similar structures to Dinosaurs, they possess advance locomotive abilities compared to Dinosuars. Hence, the bird theory does not hold true.
In sum, except the asteroid theory, the ice age theory and the bird evolution theory are looked into, they do not ascertain the cause of the extinction of Dinosaurs. Hence, the cuase of this extinction remains a mystrey, as of now.
