dinosaurs' migration
In terms of dinosaurs’ migration in the wintertime, there are controversial opinions between the reading and listening materials. Although the passage establishes three reasons to support the idea of migration, the speaker takes time to illustrates why she believes that the reasons given by the text are unsubstantiated, and she rejects them all.
In the first place, the reading posits that the diet of the dinosaurs proves their movement, since they were herbivores, so they moved to the warmer places to find food. On the other hand, the professor rejects this claim by stating that Alaska's North region was warmer in the past times; because the sun would shine 24 hours in some parts of the year, this provided a good condition for growing plants. Plus, animals would eat dead vegetations in winter, which were grown in the summer.
Secondly, the professor refutes the idea of migration because the dinosaurs would live in herds, which was supported by the text. The speaker mentions other animals that were lived in herds but did not migrate; like Roosevelt elk. In addition, the professor asserts that dinosaurs would line in a herd to have support against other predators, and living in herd would give them extra protection.
Finally, the speaker in the listening asserts that juvenile dinosaurs were not physically strong enough to migrate long distances and the other adults could not leave them alone, since the juvenile could not survive alone. Thus, the professor rejects the physical capability of the dinosaur, which was argued by the author of the text, as a reason for dinosaurs’ migration.
