Discovery of antibiotics
The points in the lecture challenge points in the reading. According to the lecture several facts refute the idea that antibiotics are wonder drug. This is contrast with the reading passage that said the discovery of antibiotics was the Most dogmatical development. Firstly, in the lecture professor discussed that new strains of bacteria appeared that were resistant to some or all of drugs. He said he vivid example of the patients in the hospital that today recommended to stay home because it is a safer place. This challenging point of reading that the antibiotics cure major form of bacterial infection quickly and completely. Also antibiotics made it possible for hospital patients to survive during and after surgery.
Secondly, Bacteria can creat very effective weapons against antibiotics. When we use some antibiotics against bacteria, the colony will be killed that is all expect for a few cells that carry a resistance gens for that particular antibiotic and new strains of bacteria never killed with any many of antibiotics. This contrast with reading that say antibiotics have given the medical profession powerful tools to fight a wide range of specific diseases.
Finally, antibiotics are no longer effective cures for some infection such as pneumonia and tuberculosis. In the lecture professor discussed today patients cure pneumonia with 24 million units ler day of penicillin but the patients might still die. Or another example of tuberculosis that today they can resistance to any drug we attack them. In contrast, the reading state antibiotics lead to reduction in the number of deaths from pneumonia and tuberculosis.
