Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? If you need to discuss upsetting or controversial problems with others, using email/text messaging is better than using telephone/voice-messaging.
Encountering problems and upsetting issues with loved ones, friends, and coworkers is inevitable, but the important matter is how to handle this situation to cause minimum emotional damage to ourselves as well as others. In this respect, some people believe that it's better to resolve problems over emails and text messages, whereas others hold an alternative prospect. The latter group holds the notion that discussing upsetting problems using telephone and voice-messaging is much more sensible. In this case, I contend with the former group.
To begin with, the written form of communication is often accompanied by misunderstanding since the tone of the writer is not obvious, and everyone can interpret the text based on their own logic and even emotions. A sentence written in an empathic manner can be interpreted as a demanding message which can in turn exacerbate the situation and even result in a more severe condition. For instance, once me and my friend got into a quarrel over a project and how to conduct it. One thing led to another, and things heated up as this whole conversation was occurring over text messages. It got to a point where both of us got so annoyed and decided to part ways and do the project individually. But before breaking this news to our professor, we decided to call for the last time and discuss it over the phone. It eventually turned out that we both were misinterpreting each other and even overreacting to the whole situation.
Moreover, when you got to represent something in person, the case can be more compelling and conspicuous. When talking on the phone, for example, you can get an immediate reaction from the other person and control the atmosphere of the discussion by soothing them and expounding your intentions. Furthermore, this can help each party evaluate the honesty of the debate. As deceitful people have less time to think and make up fake stories and excuses. In addition, all this can be more effective and less time-consuming. according to statistics, when people have the opportunity to discuss their problems in person or over the phone or voice mail, which is the next best means of communication, the rate of reconciliation upsurges significantly. They state that direct verbal confabulation plays a major role in identifying honesty and mockery.
To sum it all up, although some find resolving disturbing issues over email and text messages more convenient, I hold the prospect that telephone and voice messaging are more effective means for thereof purpose. Hearing the tone of the speaker can help do away with possible misunderstandings, while it gives less chance to make up false stories to insinuate others. I mean, who can deny the effects of direct communication? Hence, when problems are solved in person rather than over text, reconciliation can achieve more readily and easily.
