In an effort to encourage ecologically sustainable forestry practices, an international organization started issuing certifications to wood companies that meet high ecological standards by conserving resources and recycling materials. Companies that rece

The reading and the listening passages are both about eco-certification of wood companies. The reading passage provides three reasons that wood companies in the U.S will not do the certification. However, the professor casts doubt on this and says they will do it.

First of all, the article of the reading states that American consumers would not pay attention to the certification because they do not place trust in them. The professor, on the other hand, says that the customers do not treat all the products the same. He adds that they actually distinguish between products and convince independent consumers because it is trustworthy.

In addition, the writer mentions that eco-certified wood will be expensive because the companies will pay for agencies to certify their products. The lecturer rebuts this point by saying it is true that they will increase their price but it is a small fee which is less than 5%. He adds that Americans will choose the best when it comes to the environment and other things especially if it is a small fee.

Finally, the author of the reading claims that pursuing certification would make sense for woods’ companies if they marketed their products internationally. The professor refutes this idea. He avers that if Americans companies not do the certification, the international companies will enter that market with eco-certification, which will affect the American companies.

To conclude, the listening passage debunks all the points that were made in the reading passage.
