The lecture states that Endotherms are the mammals which maintain their internal body temperature warm no matter what and provide the example that dinosaurs are endotherms and provide three proofs for the claim. However, the professor disagrees with the reading and provides three supporting counter reasons.
Firstly, the reading claims that the polar dinosaurs were endotherms and claims that only mammals who are endotherms can survive such a cold and harsh climate. However, the professor refutes this point by saying that the polar region were not that cold during these time when dinosaurs were around and another possible explanation provied by the professor was that dinosaurs could have migrated during the winter so avoid such harsh climate and the existance of polar dinosaurs does not necessarily mean that dinosaurs were endotherms.
Secondly, the reading claims that dinosaur’s leg position has a corelation with it being endothermic as physiology of endothermy allows sustained physical activity. While, the professor opposes this point of view by stating that the position of the leg in dinosaurs has anything but corelation with them being endothermic. The Professor explains that the position of legs were does not proof and it only states
Thirdly, bone structure have a relation with endothermy that bone struture of dinosaurs have Haversian canals that is they have blood vessels that allow them to grow quickly. However the professor argues against this point and states that the pressence of this bone structure is not proof enough and states that the bones in dinosaurs had rings which occures after aging which helps to prove that dinosaurs were not endothermic.
