Essay topics:

Endotherms are animals such as modern birds and mammals that keep their body temperatures constant. For instance, humans are endotherms and maintain an internal temperature of 37℃, no matter whether the environment is warm or cold. Because dinosaurs were reptiles, and modern reptiles are not endotherms, it was long assumed that dinosaurs were not endotherms. However, dinosaurs differ in many ways from modern reptiles, and there is now considerable evidence that dinosaurs were, in fact, endotherms.

Scientists are arguing whether dinosaurs are endotherms or not. Difference between dinosaurs and reptiles together with several reasons seems to confirm that they are endotherms. But the professor refutes this claims based on the following reasons.

First of all, although polar dinosaur fossils have been found in Polar Regions, they might hibernate or migrate during cool times, the professor notes.

Another reason involves the positions and movements of their legs. The professor says that, dinosaurs' legs may be mainly functioning as supports for their body which can gain much large weight. In this way, legs under their body can not confirm dinosaurs are endotherm.

Last but not least, besides the Haversian canals, there are also growth rings in dinosaurs' bone structures. These facts indicate that the dinosaurs' growth rate are not consistent with the weather conditions. They could grow rapidly during cool period or growth slowly during warm period indicates that keeping their body temperatures is not essential to their survives and growth.

In conclusion, the professor reputes the lecture that the dinosaurs are endotherms. Each reasons in the passage are proven to be unconvincing.
