four day work week vs five day work week
The lecture and the passage both discuss whether or not shorter weekend benefits company and employee. While the reading states four-day work-week advantage financially both workers and company, the lecture refutes this, saying that shorter work-week won't affect company profit.
First of all, the reading claims that shorter work-week employees get enough rest and fewer mistakes and the company can hire fresher without spending extra money. However, the lecture argues with limited working hours company should spend extra money. Furthermore, the professor states that although the company doesn't spend money on the salary they have to invest money on employee training, insurance, space, and training.
In addition, the passage makes the argument that shorter working hours reduce the unemployment rate. the full-time workers shift their work to new employees which generate employment. The professor counters this point by stating that hiring a new employee costs more. According to professor company expects the same work regardless of working days which leads to no additional jobs and the current job become unpleasant.
lastly, the reading passage argues that four-day workweek good for the employee to spend time with family and personal activities. The lecture counter this point, stating that shorter work week risk and decreases the quality of life. Moreover, the professor says that shorter work week lower job stability and hurt the job in the recession period. Besides, the company prefers a five-day working employee for promotions to continue monitoring.
