Glass is a favored building material for modern architecture yet it is also very dangerous for wild birds Because they often cannot distinguish between glass and open air millions of birds are harmed every year when they try to fly through glass window

According to the reading passage, it is stated that although glass is a favored material for the state-of-the-art architecture, it is significantly perilous for wild birds. These birds can not distinguish between glass or open air, and frequently they harm themselves by flying through glass windows of buildings. The reading provides the reasons to deal with this problem. However, the professor in the listening states, why the assumptions mentioned in the reading passage were not correct, and refutes them by describing three reasons as follows.
Firstly, the reading claims that replacing the regular glass with one-way glass - which is transparent in only one direction - can be problem solving. The professor casts doubt on this point by saying that these kinds of glasses reflect like a mirror to the bird outside. Hence, they would operate as bad as a regular glass, and the bird might comprehend the reflection on the glass as sky.
Secondly, the article posits that another solution for making regular window glasses recognizable for the birds, is to paint colorful designs on them. In contrast, the professor says that birds would perceive the openings in the design as holes which they can fly through. Therefore, unlike what is indicated in the reading, these paintings will not be effective, unless they paint the glass as a whole. He asserts that this approach makes rooms to dark for the people inside, thus, it also can not be practical.
Finally, the reading says that due to the birds' ability of sensing Earth's magnetic field, creating an artificial magnetic field can work out in guiding birds away from buildings. The professor opposes this point by explaining that although birds can use Earth's magnetic field to navigate, it is not useful for short distances. According to the professor, when birds migrate from a cold country to a warm one before the winter, they use this ability; but when they want to fly from one side of the city to other sites, they use their eyes rather than the ability to sense Earth's magnetic field. As a result, this solution will not work out either.
