Essay topics:

humpback whales, intelligence, brain, shark, migrate, straight line, star, navigate, spy-hopping, intelligent

In this set of material, both the author of the reading passage and the lecturer are discussing about humpback whales. The migration path of these kind of whales is not certain. While the author declares that they are probably navigating by the stars, the professor says that although it's fascinating, there is not any convincing evidence to show they use stars for navigation. In what follows, reasons of both the author of the reading and the lecturer will be substantiated.
Firstly, both the author and the lecturer explain whales’ brain intelligence as a manner for using stars. According to reading, it is said that their intelligence is enough to use stars. On the other hand, the professor states that other animals like birds are intelligent, such as ducks. So, there is no connection between intelligence and using stars for navigation.
Secondly, the author asserts that starlight lines are humpback whales migration path. In contrast, the lecturer believes they can migrate in straight lines by another external force such as magnetic field. Their brain is bio magnetic, and it is sensitive to magnetic field. Thus, humpback whales can navigate by magnetic field rather than using stars.
Finally, the author of the passage proclaims that humpback whales show an uncommon behavior and put their heads on the water surface to looking upward and stars. But, the professor says that there is nothing to do with it. Some other animals like sharks also do this. They look to other animals to hunt them during the day.
