If you could change one important thing about your hometown, what would you change?
The hometown in which we live and grow is of paramount importance because it implicitly or explicitly has either beneficial or detrimental effects on people living in it. With this in mind, if I could make a vital change in my hometown. I would improve its city management in general and traffic management as well as building construction management in particular.
Nowadays, most of the large cities in the world are daily plagued with heavy traffic virtually all through the day, and my hometown is no exception. People have to spend their otherwise precious time in traffic. The amount of time wasted in traffic can be beneficial not only for an individual stuck in traffic but also for the whole society. What I mean is that if the individual spends this time in their jobs, they will earn more money, and other people of the city can benefit from his or her performed duties. Also, if the individual spends this time in recreational activities, not only will he or she both happier and more relaxed rather than angry and bellicose, but the tension and violence in the city will decrease significantly as well. Moreover, abundant energy in the form of fuels used in traffic imposes much expenditure, which can be allocated to other crucial goals such as education and healthcare development, on the government. The management of traffic, therefore, has knock-on effects on societies, and to efficiently manage traffic, authorities can apply an extended highway system and state-of-the-art management techniques.
Another problem my hometown is afflicted with is that the buildings are constructed without any order and logic throughout the city. To illustrate my view, I offer several examples of its negative repercussions. The first one is that there are a great number of narrow alleys in neighborhoods whether the rich or the poor inhabit them; however, the city council allows constructors to erect buildings with more floors than standard buildings in such areas must have. This results in overcrowded neighborhoods with a low level of accessibility when a disaster occurs. Another instance is that the city council allows sky-high structures to be erect in the suburbs of the city, which are enormous obstacles in the path of winds towards the city. Hence, the concentration of pollution surges, thereby threatening the citizens’ health. If there is a true determination to resolve this problem, proficient environmental professors and engineers will have to be engaged.
To summarize, by taking into account what I mentioned above, I would ameliorate the city management in my hometown, which is the root of many problems and difficulties, if I was allowed to make an essential change in my hometown. Finally, I do believe that most of these hardships can be eradicated thanks to the galloping rate at which technologies and sciences develop and to efficacious management.
