The issues both the reading and the listening focus on are the solutions for preventing injuries made by building's glass windows to birds . However, the listening opposes to the reading at three main points.
At the first points, the reading states that preventing injuries to birds can be done by using one-way glass instead of regular glass for windows. According to the listening, the one-way glass will reflect the images of the sky or cloud or any surrounding thing which birds are not able to realize. Therefore, this solution does not bring any efficiency.
At the second point, the reading suggests that regular glass windows of buildings should be decorated with colorful lines or other designs to avoid birds from trying to fly through. The professor refutes this suggestion. He argues that the stripes or any decoration on regular glass still need holes for people to see from inside to outside, but these holes can fool the birds. For efficiency, the holes need to be reduced into very small size but this greatly makes rooms in the building very dark.
At the third point, the reading believes that birds can be directed by artificial magnetic fields to prevent colliding with buildings. On the contrary, the professor points out that birds actually have a natural ability to sense the magnetic fields but they only use it for long-distance trips. In short moving, they almost use their eyes and brightness from the Sun to take the direction. Thus, the above belief is impractical.
