Integrated TPO47 writing
The reading passage and the listening have a conflict of about the power of flighting in Pterosaur. The writer argues some reasons that this animal could not fly due to some reasons which he stated in the passage. While the professor refutes this claim and presents other reasons to support his hypothesis.
Firstly, the author asserts that Pterosaurs were cold-blooded and this feature causes diminishing its metabolism likewise other cold-blooded animals, so they had not enough energy to generate for flighting. However, the lecturer casts doubt on this statement and he says that according to the fossil records they had covered hair on their body which prevents from heating loss of the body and it causes they have needed energy for flying more than a warm-blooded animal.
Secondly, the reading passage argues that they were giant birds and their heavy body restricted them from flying. On the contrary, the professor brings up this issue with the fact that based on the fossil bones which were found, all this animal bone were hallowed solid and this can be an evidence of an assistant for flying due to declining the weight of the body by hallow bones.
Finally, the writer claims that in all birds strong back legs are essential for flying, while this animal had small and weak muscle in the back legs. In contrast, the lecturer holds the view that they had forelimbs stronger, which could be helpful to push off the ground and they might jump enough to go up the air without the need to strong hind limb for pushing.
As a result, the professor statement rejected the hypothesis stated by the writer.
