Both the passage and lecture is discussing about the common beliefs about elephants. Keeping this in mind, the author introduces tree dominant beliefs about the giant creature. The lecturer, on contrary, disapproves the beliefs and explains that they do not have scientific basis and accordingly provides three interpretations for the misunderstood beliefs.
First, both the reading and speaking materials argue elephant’s ability in faithfully recognizing their death time. In this vein, the writer states that the animals know the exact time of their death and when they get old they get separated apart from their hard and go near water and die there where public call it as "elephant graveyards". The lecturer, however, opposes the claim by calling it misunderstanding and illustrates that old elephants go to adjacent water to feed the soft grasses due to disability in chewing and their broken teeth. Consequently, their death happens around water nearby.
Second, the both passage and lecture explain the painting ability of elephants. Having this in mind, the writer asserts that the creature have object recognition ability which helps to draw or paint different objects such as flowers and other elephants and etc. Conversely, the professor refutes the assertion by demonstrating that the animal does not understand how to pain an object, however, it just reacts to the strokes of its trainer. People who train an elephant to draw would stroke the creature's ear and it provokes them to draw a line and they just to learn how to draw certain patterns by the tricky training method.
Eventually, the both text and speech illustrate elephants fear of Mince. Accordingly, the author states the animals do scare mice. Oppositely, the professor calls in misinterpretation and explains that elephants do not scare the small creature, however, they just are not familiar with them and it makes them to escape from the possible threatening. To more clarification, she adds that the elephants which are living in zoo do not afraid of the tiny creature because they are familiar with them.
