First of all, the reading passage says that reason the ice age is the oceanic current effect because prior to ice age period the globe was warm and it melt the glacier and move the fresh water into the gulf of mexico that could be happened again in this period and it causes the ice on the surface of the earth. But the speaker refutes this point by stating that, if that the case then only the northern hemisphere like Alaska, Canada and north america got cool while the southern hemisphere like NZ and south Africa got cool.In this way lecturer contrast the reading passage statements.
Secondly, reading passage claims that volcanic eruptions would be the one more causes for the little ice age because the dust comes from it, will prevent the sun light enter into the earth and eventually the temperature goes down and became ice on the surface. But the speaker explains that even though could be chance that long time and whenever it happens, it produce the colourful band appears in the sky but there no evidence for this events. So volcanic activities is not a probable cause for this little ice age events.
Thirdly, reading passage states that decline in the population and vast growth of forest may be reason for the little ice age why because increasing number forest helps to reduce the green house effect, so this way the temperature of the earth may gone down and causes the climate changes. Again the professor contrast this point by stating that in order to happen this it takes more thousands of year. Further more during 1400 year there was large population growth in the earth so human being started cut off the trees and initiate the cultivation crops and edible things. So there no chance of increasing the forest on the particular period.
To sum up, reading passage states that oceanic current, volcanic eruption and the decline in the human population are the reason the little ice age around 1350- 1900. But all three theories are contrast by the speaker by above mentioned evidences.
