Both the lecturer and the article are discussing the appearances of professors on TV and its advantages and disadvantages. The article claims that professors as well as universities and society get something useful from such events. However, the lecturer states that no one really benefit from TV shows and for scholars it can even result in bad consequences.
First and foremost, in the article it was said that it's a good practice for teachers to participate in TV programs. It can improve their reputation within other scholars and make more people engaged into his or her ideas and investigations. However, the lecturer has an opposite opinion. She is assured that TV shows can cause damage to the reputation of the scholars. They can even be ignored during valuable meetings and conferences. Consequently, it will become a tough call to ask for money to make investigations. One more point, is that TV shows are very time-consuming. Professors need to spend time on the preparations and on the travel itself instead of having lectures with students.
Secondly, the article says that public is interested in science and such programs are informative and captivating for them, considering the fact that they don't have an opportunity to meet with scholars personally. Nevertheless, the lecturer claims that listeners don't really benefit from shows. TV programs don't like to create and broadcast a very deep and detailed information, wich is important for science. All such programs contain are academic titles and background material related to the talk.
