No till farming

Essay topics:

No till farming

The passage discusses that plowing improves agriculture in many ways, such as higher crop yield, enhancing the soil quality, and reducing the production cost. However, the professor undermines the arguments in the passage by highlighting the cons of plow-dependent farming.

First of all, the high crop yield should be sustainable. Overrunning the farming land capacity may end in unproductive soil. Thus the annual yield figures start to plunge down after a while. This weakens the point made by the passage about the positive influence of plowing in higher productivity of modern agriculture.

Second, the plowing leads the soil to be more prone to water and wind wear. It turns over the surface ground and exposes it to the drying effect of wind. Moreover, removing the plants remaining from the surface results in lower ability of preserving water. This annul the passage claims that plowing is a potent soil quality enhancer.

Finally, according to the professor's account, no-till farming reduces the amount of fuel consumption by 50% and the amount of man work by 30 to 50%. This is in complete contrast to the passage that believes plowing helps the farmer to spend a lesser amount of energy and money, compared to conventional farming methods.
