Professors are normally found in university classrooms, offices, and libraries doing research and lecturing to their students.
The reading passage and the lecture compare and contrast certain details about the professors giving academic talks on the television. On one hand, it is treated as a reputation for the professor whereas on the other hand, it is considered not to be beneficial to anybody.
The passage describes about the reputation of the professor appearing as guests on television programs which is beneficial not only to the university students but to the general public as a whole. this is contradicted in the lecture by saying that such professors are not called for meetings and are not allowed in conferences as they view education as a means of entertainment.
Furthermore, it is stated that universities have benefit by a professor attending TV shows as it is talked very highly about the university by the general public which in turn leads to the reputation of the university. this fact is contrasted by implying that a lot of time is wasted by the professor on rehearsals, travel and makeup. So, instead of worrying about university and students, they waste quality time.
Moreover, since television is a mode of communication to every individual on earth, viewers tend to get expertise and insight from professional talks. Nevertheless, TV’s are known to offer only academic titles rather than in depth lecture lacking in intellectual substance.
To put in a nutshell, the facts can be reiterated that professors waste time and money for unnecessary programs showcased in the form of academic talks. such time can be spent fruitfully with fellow colleagues or students.
