quacker
TPO 32
Both the author and the lecturer discuss theories about the source of “quackers”. The passage claims that there are several theories about what might have caused the odd sounds. The professor, on the other hand, completely rejects whatever mentioned in the reading through citing three reasons.
First, both the author and the professor talk about the strange noises produced by Ocra whales. According to the passage, the Ocra whale’s sounds when they are trying to attract a male are similar to those that the submarines were detecting. The lecturer, nevertheless, rejects the author's view and illustrates the idea that the Ocra whales live near the surface of water and submarines are located in the depth of water. Therefore, the submarines cannot receive the Ocra whale's sound.
Second of all, both the reading and the lecture discuss giant squids. The author argues that it is possible they have the ability to emit sound, and perhaps they approached the submarines without curiosity. However, the professor refutes this, saying that squids have always lived in the ocean, so it is unlikely that their sounds were detected in 1960 but disappeared by 1980.Therefore, this sound cannot has to do with the squids.
Eventually, the passage and the lecture address the subject of existing other country's submarines in the Russian's oceans. The passage goes on to mention that another country's submarines were secretly patrolling the area, so the strange sounds may have been emitted by the foreign submarines unintendedly. In contrast, the professor points out that the strange sounds change their directions very quickly and the foreign submarines are not fast enough to change their rout too fast and they are not fashioned enough to change their direct without any noise.
