Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture. Being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
The main topic of both passage and the lecture is to discuss whether discovered vessels used as electric batteries in ancient time. The author argues that it not possible that these cylinders utilized as batteries, while the professor, on the contrast, not only refutes the author's claims but also points out that the reasons of the professor are not convincing, on a number of accounts elaborated upon here under.
To commence with, both the writer and the lecturer argues about an absence of wire or conductors. The author claims that there is no evidence that indicates some wires placed near these vessels. The professor contradicts this idea by asserting that these vessels discovered by some local people, not archeologist, thus they are not trained like an archeologist consider other things around these vessels to find some evidence of wire or conductors. Furthermore, she adds that it is possible the local people throw away some conductors or some things like wires.
In addition, both the author and the professor assert that archeologist found similar copper cylinders in the Seleucia, which they used this cylinder for holding scrolls of sacred texts. The professor, on the other hand, states that it is possible for ancient people used these vessels as the battery because they found the iron rod and some liquid inside these cylinders.
The last allegation of the author against which the professor discusses is that there is some application for the produced electricity. The writer says the electricity was useless for ancient people. The speaker claims that the ancient people could produce mild shocks using this vessel. Ancient doctors could convince other people that they could cure by the magical power of these devices. In fact, the ancient people might be used these vessels for healing. Indeed, the modern medicine used them for decrease pain and cure patients.
