The reading discusses three reasons to believe that a small mammal, R. robustus, could not have been an active hunter (perhaps it was scavenger that sometimes fed on unhatched eggs of psitticosaur dinosaur), but lecturer presents reasons why each of these three reasons are unconvincing.
The article states that R. robustus was probably just a scavenger and not an active hunter of dinosaurs and provided three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that R. robustus was an active hunter and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading states that R. robusutus were like the size of a domestic cat and could not have been predators of Psittacosaurs. The professsor refutes this point. She states that R. robustus might have been too small to eat big dinosaurs but were able to eat baby dinosaurs. She stated that predators are known to be able to eat preys that they were twice as large as in size.
Second, the article claims that the legs of R robusutus were not suited for hunting but rather for scavenging because they were positioned at the side and not beneath the animal. The professor disagreed with this statement and gave an example of a modern animal known as the Tasmanian Devil. The Tasmanian devil has short legs at it sides and can still run for fifiteeen kilometres per hour. It is an active predator. If the Tasmanian Devil can be an active predator with these features, then the R robustus is also an active predator.
Third, the reading claims that the bones of the Dinosaurs found in the R. robustus stomach did not have marks. Therefore, there is no evidence that the Dinosaurs were hunted. The professor explains the reason for the absence of marks on the bones Dinosaurs found in the R. robusutus stomach, by stating that R robusutus had powerful jaws and didn't use the back of it teeth for chewing, it swallowed it prey whole or in big pieces.
