At a sale at a private home in California several years ago,
The main topic of both the reading and the lecture is the photo negatives that have been found in a home. Based on the text, the author of the passage states that these negatives belong to Ansel Adams, and he or she provides three reasons to support their idea. However, the professor rejects the author's view.
First, according to the writing section, the author says that the negatives include images of landscapes, which are so similar to Ansel Adams' well-known works. One of the negatives displays a tree that has been shown in the other works of Ansel Adams. The lecturer, nevertheless, supports a contradictory view; he claims that it is true that that picture is so similar to Adams' works, but that tree was so famous and popular landmark in that place. Therefore, the image may be taken by another person.
Second, contrary to the belief in the reading that the handwriting of the envelops which was used to classify the envelopes belongs to Virginia Adams, Ansel Adams' wife since she helped him organize these negatives, The lecturer mentions that Virginia was an educated person, and she grew up in a famous family, so it is unlikely he wrote that handwriting because those are full of spelling mistakes.
Finally, the author of the passage describes that negatives were damaged by fire, and also, it is famous that Adams' studio was also fired in that period of time, so it is likely that these negatives belong to Adam. The lecturer, in contrast, refutes this explanation. He believes that, in that period, the firing of studios was so common since all studies used chemical materials that were so flammable, and their works were usually damaged by fire.
