Speaking through social media
The reading and the lecture both talk about social media. The reading claims that this new technology has allowed many people to widespread their interactions all over the world and find a voice through the internet. Meanwhile, the lecturer expressed that social media comes with so many risks such as bullying, manipulation, etc. Not to mention that this is not only affecting children but also included adults. With the development of social media, some people have become a target for thieves taking over their identity.
The reading suggested that social media has become the greatest source of information for people who like to explore new skills. Many people have benefited from social media because they have been able to find friends who share the same interests, passions, and hobbies. Regardless, the lecturer held that when the number of social media users increased in the United States in 2004, many families were negatively affected. Families started to interact less and talk to each other just for important matters. Moreover, children relied on social media for communication and connected more through screen fields than they do with their close friends and family members. As a result, these actions created an impact on people's social skills.
Overall, the lecture and the reading address the positive and negative impacts of social media.
Although the reading marked the benefits of social media, the lecture concentrated on the risks.
