Summarise the points made in the lecture you just heard, explaining how it casts doubt on the points made in the reading.
The author of the reading passage describes how the tidal power can be used as an alternative energy sources. However, the lecturer does not agree with it and mentions three drawbacks which I will explore in the subsequent paragraphs.
First, the reading passage says that tidal power can be used as an electrical energy supplement to other sources because of the diminishing fossil fuels. Nevertheless,The professor in the lecture raised a flaw and said that tidal power can only meet a small fraction of electricity demands as there are not many locations available to use this energy form.
Second, the author says that tidal power is non-polluting and not harmful. But the professor does not agree with it and says that it does have severe effects on the marine life. The professor says that because of the change in the water quality such as increased salinity, the local wildlife and vegetation might deteriorate. The red tide and the inter tidal organisms might get paralysed because of the increased mud and sediments. The barrage used to exploit tidal power might prevent migration of the fishes.
Lastly, the lecturer also states that tidal power use might also affect the local economy as fishmen won't be able to function in the estuary and mow their boats there because of the barrage which is created across the estaury to produce electricity.
Thus, the author and the professor are not in agreement with each other on the topic and hence, will have some difficulty finding a common ground on this topic.
