summarize the points in the lecture about genetically modification of trees, explain how they cast doubt on points made in the reading about genetically modified plants.
The article discusses about genetically modification of trees and gives three reasons to support its opinion. However, the professor in the lecture totally disagrees with this agenda and refutes its reasons accordingly.
First, the author thinks that genetic modification can help the trees to become more tough and survive in harsh situations. But, in the lecture, the woman feels that although trees which are genetically modified may resist some events like climate change or similar occasions, on the other hand, in the normal condition some trees survive the difficulties at all. However, if we modify them genetically, we made them to be mostly uniform which can result in all of them extiction, in the case that they cannot resist a unique kind of pest.
Second, the reading mentions that this modification can lead to economical advances for the farmers. In contrary, the woman explains that the farmers have to pay 3 times more for the so-called genetically modified seeds if they wanted to use those seeds. Also, they must buy the seeds again from the sellers every time, since these seeds have not the possibility of being reproduced by planted trees normally.
Third, the article argues the point that humans are using trees and cutting them down so rapidly that their replacement is not feasible. On the other hand, professor reminds that the planted genetically modified trees also cause serious problems for other natural trees in the environment. She points out that the genetically manipulated trees grow radically faster than natural ones and consume nutrients in the soil and water so agressively that nothing is going to remain for other natural trees to survive. So, the artificial trees thenseves do more harm to natural trees than any other factor.
