Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecture are both about the military service are now mandatory in numerous nation. The author of the reading states that unless any issue occur the forces are not required hence it should not made compulsory. The lecturer mentions that they are imperative as they ensures nation's security and attacks each of the claims made in the article.
First, the author begins by stating that there has been instances of countries such as European union, canada and so on which are not under any threat neither now or nor in future as well. Thus, rather spending fund on forces these could be use for promoting social programs. The professor believes there are flaws in the wroter's position. He contends that making it mandatory will surely benefit the nation eventhough they are not suffering crisis as they will have enough militaries in case of emergency to ensure safety.
Secondly, according to the writing in order to train forces, more and more resources are required. In addition, they are recruited for short term so there will be inefficient use of materials and there is no guarantee of good return from these forces as well. The speaker on other hand points out that indeed they could aid needy one rather than spending on training. Yet, it is not wastage of fund on military as well because trained forces can better provide services than the untrained one. Furthermore, untrained forces are susceptible to make inefficient use of resources.
Finally, the reading passage also notes that it should be made compulsory for whole nation as few armries are enough to deal with threats. Moreover, this could result in a nation fully controlled by political police force. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that if made mandatory they can be well prepared for eventual threats. Additionally, although there is not presence of geographical problem yet there are numerous prevailing conflicts owing to the politics. Thus, such situation can be handled effectievely by these military forces.
As we can see, the author and lecturer holds conflicting views on advantage of making military force compulsion. The speaker effectievely challenges the writer's argument.
