Summarize the points made in the lecture. Being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the listening passage.
Both the reading and lecture are about genetically modified trees. According to the author of the reading, genetically modified trees enjoy many benefits and provide three examples of support, while the professor says these trees might be beneficial, but they are not as great as they sound. Then the professor casts doubts on the examples provided by reading.
To begin with, the reading states that genetically modified trees are tougher and can survive adverse events better than nature tree. However, the professor argues that the modified trees might only be resistant against a particular condition, and they are not likely to be more survival at all. Moreover, the professor continues that in an environment with a lot of nature trees, a few of those trees will survive in a disaster, whereas almost all of genetically changed trees might die, so in situations like climate changes or attack of pests, the genetically changed trees are more uniformed and thus, are subjected to more danger.
Second of all, the reading posits that planting genetically modified trees can be economically beneficial to their owners because of their higher gains and faster growing compared to nature trees. In contrast to the reading, the professor says that planting the modified trees have hidden cost. The seeds of those trees are more expensive and the person who grows them cannot plant the seeds, coming from the grown plants, and has to pay to the company he bought them from, every time he wants to plant them.
Finally, the reading argues that planting genetically modified trees will prevent damage to the nature trees. Needless to say, the professor disagrees and says that genetically modified trees haze the local wild trees. The genetically modified trees are more aggressive and when they are grown among natural trees, they out compete the other trees. For example, with the excessive utilization of soil and nutrients in it.
