The reading passage gives us information about the Sydney Opera House and how it can be categorized as an architecture object, at the same time, the lecturer avers that she disagrees with it due to the fact that the building is a unique masterpiece of modern architecture. To prove her stance she provides arguments which are discussed below in details.
To begin with, the text clearly claims that the Opera House belongs to international style, however, the speaker does not concur with it, because the building does not match with some of the main characteristics of the style, for instance, it is highly imaginative.
Secondly, the writer believes that the Sydney Opera House represents the organic style, at the same time, the lecturer only partly agrees with the statement. She accepts that some of famous and well-known scholars who adhere to the organic style indeed were involeved in the project but the building violates one of the main maxims of the style: the appearance of building is not functional and conspicously was constructed to please spectators.
Finally, it is said in the passage that computer technology has been used to create the building. Although this information is true, it is mistaken to aver that the Sydney Opera House represents the hightech style. The lecturer suggests that the opera is a product of elaborate engineering which was usedto embody the beauty.
Consequently, the speaker sticks to the statement that the Opera House cannot be attributed to any particular style, instead it is a unique masterpiece of modern architecture.
