In this set of materials, the writer and the lecturer discuss about the causes of global warming. They totally disagree with each other. According to the lecturer they are all about human interfere in the atmosphere, although the writer thinks that it is a natural phenomenon. The lecturer refutes the writer’s claims with several explanations and examples.
Firstly, according to the writer the atmosphere’s temperature stages has changed for years. For instance, after ice ages the atmosphere has started to be warmer, but before the ice ages it had been warmer, too. On the other hand, the lecturer states that industry and emission changes in the atmosphere are only at their worse.
Furthermore, in the reading passage the writer indicates that scientist have only been documenting weather changes for last 100 years, and they are not enough to say that global warming is related to human activities. However, the lecturer claims that although the scientist cannot predict future temperature trends %100 accuracy, much evidence point the global warming trend may make the planet unhabitatable. She continues to say that the temperature has increased for 1000 years, but it is now at an alarming stage. Thus, people can be only guilty for it.
Lastly, in the reading passage it is indicated that there is no evidence that shows the relationships between the earth’s surface temperature and technology. On the contrary, the lecturer points out that as a greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide release into the atmosphere to make the earth warm enough for the life, but it radically increased recently. Thus, the temperature of the atmosphere has increased one degree since past century.
All in all, the lecturer totally opposes to writer’s claims. She objects the writer in all aspects and shows us that there is a significantly relationship between industrialization and global warming.
