The points presented in the lecture, agree to the fact that all the points mentioned in the passage are true, but also claim that despie the veracity of these facts, the painting is actually a painting made by Rembrandt himself. These explanations are presented in the following paragraphs.
Firstly, the fur collar that casts doubt on the authenticity of the painting, is believed to be have been painted over the originial painting 100 years later to increase the value of the painting, as it then depicts it to be a portrait of an aristocratic lady. These findings were confrmed by doing the x-ray analysis of the paint pigments of the fur collar and the remaining painting.
Secondly, the lecture also stands by the fact that Rembrandt was indeed the master of light and shadow. As discussed above, the fur collar was added later. When the paint of the fur collar was removed it was observed that the subject of the portrait was wearing a light coloured cloth, which does reflects light. This expalins why the face is not in shadow; thus demystifying the apparent inconsistency.
Lastly, to debunk the contradiction presented by the back panel which is several pieces of wood glued together- the lecturer explains - the size of the panel was increased when the fur collar was painted, this was all done to make the painitng look grand and increase its value. She also says, that the main panel of the painting uses wood from the same tree that is found in other verified works by Remembrandt .
Thus, according to the aforementioned explanations, the painting is indeed an original Remembrandt painting; despite all the reasons o think so otherwise being true too.
