The passage and the lecture are both about dinosaurs. The reading passage states that dinosaurs are endotherms that means, they can keep a constant body temperature. The professor, on the other hand, states that dinosaurs are not endotherms and provides three reasons for support.
The author of the reading passage states that, dinosaurs fossils were found in the polar regions. The author argues that, in order to be active in the cold climate, they should have maintained a body temperature above the surrounding area temperature. However, the professor disagrees. She contends this point by saying that, earlier, the polar region's climate were much warmer than today, and the dinosaurs might have been migrated to other places or hybrinated during cold season.
Next, the author points out that, dinosaurs legs are situated under their body, that is a common feature of modern endotherms .Thus, dinosaurs are endotherms. On this point too, the professor disagrees. She explains that the leg positioning help dinosaurs to support it's huge body.
Finally, The author mentions about a specific structure in their body called, Haversian canals, that is an indication of endothermy. Once again, the professor rejects this argument. She states that, along with the Haversian canals one more feature is present in the dinosaurs' fossils, called growth rings, these are specific for non-endotherms. The growth ring has certain pattern such as rapid growth followed by slow growth, indicates that the dinosaurs are not endotherms.
