TOEFL Official Guide - Practice Test 2 - Integrated Writing - Professors on TV

The passage, as well as the lecture, is all about whether anyone is being benefited through the TV program or a guest lecture by a professor who is meant to be in the campus teaching student. The lecturer is seen refuting to each point made in the passage by providing an explanation to it.

According to the lecturer, a professor appearing on television is not good considering his professional background. Most times it is observed that professors who would prepare for such shows are taken lightly on educational base. They might not be invited for important meetings related to university discussion or maybe less paid. Whereas the author makes a point by saying that the professor who appears on television will be well known to everyone watching a show. It can increase professor's as well as the university's reputation to another level.

Similarly, if the professor is attending such open forums and seminar it is not going to benefit the university as it takes a lot of time to prepare the content. Also, it involves a lot of prior preparations related to dressing and planning which if the professor spends time on, will adversely affect education purposes. Even if the passage states that university will be benefited from an increase in publicity and higher donation, the lecturer makes it very clear that nothing is as important as studies of the students.

The passage claims that learning is the output that is gained from making such shows but in reality viewers who see such shows doesn't really understand in-depth knowledge of these topics. For instance, the lecturer states that such educational topics can also be delivered by a reporter who has some knowledge.

This way both the author and the lecturer states their points.
