Both the reading and listening are about policy require companies to offer four day workweek insteas of five day work week.
First, according to the reading the four day work week will improve the work quailty and enhance the company profit. However, the professor refutes this point by explaining that the four day work week policy will force the companies to spent more money. He illustrates that compnies woll need to hire more workers, which will cost them more money for the training and providing health benefits. As, the health benefits are same for the four days workweek as the five days work week. Second, the new workers will cost the company money to buy more offices and more computers, which will cut into the company profit.
Second, the article states that the new policy will help the countery by decreasing the rate of the employment. Nevertheless, the lecture contradicts by discussing that as mentioned before hiring new workers and offering new jobs will be costly for the companies. As a result, companies will find other options as offering overtime for their employees. Moreover, they may increase the expectations that the five day workweek will be finished in the four days work week. As the employees will do the same amount of work of the five days at four days.
Third, the author avers that the new policy will provide more free tiime for the empolyees which can help them to enhance their life quality. On the other hand, the listening opposes this idea by claiming that the more free time will be risky for the empolyees. It can decrease their quailty of life, because their job stabilization will be decreased. It will increase their chance to loss their jobs. In addition, companies will prefer the five days work week for the manager poistions to have full coverage and supervision of the work. Consequantely, their oppotuinties to advance their careers will be lowered too.
Therefore, the professor quetions all the notions mentioned on the reading.
