TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The reading passage states that working for four days a week could be better for different aspects. The lecturer casts many doubts about the statement for several reasons.

First, the author of the article reports that companies could save money, because they would pay less for salaries (80%) and for errors, given that employees being more rested and alert could make few errors in their work. However, the lecturer claims that companies could spend more money because they should hire more people in order to finish the tasks. Therefore, they should buy more offices or computers, for istance.

Second, the reading passage states that companies profits could increase because every employer cost less, giving the opportunity to hire others at the same salary. On the other hand, the author of the lecture disagrees, highlithing that hiring is expensive. Futhermore, he says that tough people work for less hours, companies expect the same result from them, so they could ask to employees for overtime in order to finish the work.

Finally, the article claims that working for four days a week instead for five, would be better for employees, improving their quality of life, for example, spending more free time with their families. The lecture gives a different point of view about free time, reporting that a more free time for workers could be dangerous, because they could look for other jobs.
