The passage mentions that the painting named " Portrait of an elderly Woman in White Bonnet " was attributed to the Rembrandt but there were problems with the painting that suggested it could not be a work by him.The passage cast doubts in collar, light illumination and panels of wood of the painting. However, the lecturer contends that the painting was painted by Rembrandt with the following observations.
Firstly, about the way women in the portrait is dressed, wearing a luxurious fur collar, the lecturer states that while doing the x-ray of the painting, fur collar was not the part of the original painting. It was placed on the top of the painting to show it luxurious.
Secondly, about the effect of light and shadow in the painting, the face is shown illuminated by the light below it but there is no such light object to illuminate light rather a dark fur collar. And the lecturer states that originally, there were light color collar below the face that illuminated light from below which explained the painting was mastered with effects of light and shadow.
Thirdly, the back of the painting was painted on a panel made of several pieces of wood glued together and Rembrandt painting never used the panels glued together. And the lecturer states that, on the process of adding the fur collar, the panels were also added and glued together. Moreover, the woods used were from the same tree as used by the Rembrandt in painting.
In sum, thus, the lecturer states that , the paintings was actually painted by Rembrandt.
